A private equity-backed sustainability solutions firm with European headquarters sought to deepen its North American footprint and accelerate growth by acquiring add-ons in the operational risk consulting segment. Our client and their UK-based PE investors recognised the need for a skilled sector-specific transatlantic M&A advisor who could pinpoint optimal acquisition opportunities and industrialise market access in North America in a targeted, high impact origination sprint.

Challenges

Despite a large corporate development department, our client experienced challenges in identifying non-banked opportunities in this cross-border effort to grow inorganically in the US. Additionally, the challenge continued with penetrating conversations and establishing connections with US-based C-suite executives, given amount of interest these businesses tend to receive.

  • Complexity in identifying and vetting firms that are “off-market” and don’t provide much detail publicly.
  • Barriers to connecting with owners and C-suite executives given significant inbound activities for those firms from the large US-players and PE.
  • Industrializing the M&A process, while also developing the all important people-connection to drive the deal forward.

  • In a three-month origination sprint (still ongoing), Artemis delivered a longlist of 87 targets, contacting 64 of these at the client’s request and bringing additional ‘live’ data to the client concerning 27 of those through direct discussions resulting from this engagement.
  • By the end of the third month, the client had been introduced to 6 of these, 6 of which let to additional deep dives (with IRLs completed under NDA and subsequent meetings).
